Why the Size on the Label Is Usually Wrong
A size 30 in one brand is not a size 30 in another. Here is what is actually going on, and how to pick a size you will not regret.

You buy a size 32. It arrives, you wear it, and it is too big. Your old pair is
a 32 as well.
You did not measure wrong. The system is genuinely confusing.
There is no international standard for a trouser size number
No body regulates what "size 32" has to measure. Every manufacturer decides
for itself, and many choose to print a number smaller than the real size so
the buyer feels slimmer.
The practice has a name: vanity sizing. A trouser that is really 34 inches is
labelled 32, so it feels like you still fit your old number.
The result is that the label number is not a size. It is a marketing decision.
Why our own catalogue differs between lines
We make trousers in two workshops — one for dress pants, one for jeans — and
they have different labelling habits:
- Dress pants are labelled two inches smaller than their true size. A
- Jeans are true to the label. A pair labelled 30 really is 30 inches.
We know that is confusing. We also know the fix is not forcing one workshop to
change how it works — the result would be worse, because their patterns are
already cut around that habit.
The fix is telling you, on the product page it applies to.
So how do you choose properly
Most reliable: measure your trousers
Take your best-fitting pair. Lay it flat. Measure the waist edge to edge, then
double it. That is your full waist in centimetres.
Compare it with the cm column in the size chart on the product page as a guide.
If the fit matters, chat us: we measure the pair you are about to receive.
The guide is here:
How to Measure Trouser Waist Size.
Second best: use height and weight
Not everyone owns a tape measure. Send your height and weight through the chat
on any product page and we will estimate your waist from both, then suggest a
size.
Every product page also has a "Find my size" button that does the same job
and shows the arithmetic behind the suggestion, so you can judge it yourself.
This is an estimate, not a certainty. Two people of the same height and weight
can have different builds. Measure if you can.
The approach that disappoints most often
"Going by the size of my old pair."
That works only if the old pair is the same brand, the same line, and measured
the same way. Beyond that it is a guess.
One thing we do guarantee
If the size does not match the details on the product page, we exchange it.
7 days from delivery, unworn with tags on. Return shipping is paid by the buyer.
We make the trousers ourselves. If our measurement is wrong, that is our
problem, not yours.

Sizing is the one thing that decides whether a trouser feels comfortable all
day. Because trousers are what we work on all day, it is the thing we take
most seriously. See the catalogue and check the numbers yourself.
